News, Updates and Random Open Tabs

Normally I'd open with some form of "what's going on, NerdLovers?", but we've just lived through what seems like it was going to be the opening bars of WWIII but ended up being yet another round of TACO Tuesday. Weirdly, being Gen X helps; I grew up in the shadow of nuclear armageddon for the first 20 years of my life so I'm kinda used to it at this point. Which is something of a horrifying thing to say, but hey, gotta embrace whatever unhealthy coping mechanisms get you through the night.

And let's face it, if you did anything productive yesterday, you were ahead of the curve.

But hey, we're all still here and the world is continuing to spin on, so let's get into it.

Three Cheers for Old Facefull...

The latest episode of Do As We Say – my podcast collaboration with good friend and actual doctor, Dr. Liz Powell – just dropped and whoo boy this one's a doozy. We're talking about "nutmaxxers", dudes who want to, well... maximize their nut.

This was a fun one to record, even if it's absolutely going to set our goal of getting ads and sponsors back by years. If you want to hear a pair of sex educators talk about one of the dank and distressingly sticky corners of the Internet (and watch Dr. Liz take psychic damage in real time), this one is for you. Do As We Say can be found on YouTube at youtube.com/@doaswesaypod, on Spotify, Apple Podcasts and anywhere you can shove podcasts into your earholes.

And hey, if you enjoy this madness, be sure to subscribe, leave a review and tell your friends. We've got some amazing episodes coming up soon, including our takes on other 'maxxers you may have been hearing about and a certain popular Canadian hockey show...

Become Bulletproof

If you've been missing some of my long-form advice, I've got excellent news for you. I've just released a new interactive workbook – Building Bulletproof Confidence.

This workbook will help walk you through the common misconceptions we have around confidence – what it is, how we build it and how confidence is built, not earned. I lead you through a series of exercises to help you find your confident persona, recognize the ways you've already developed your confidence and even how to give yourself a much-needed boost in the moment. This bad boy is just $5 and is available instantly from the Dr. NerdLove bookstore.

Speaking of which...

Shameless Commerce!

I've been making a number of changes and adjustments to the blog – cleaning out a lot of the dead weight, fine-tuning the code (all hand-crafted, thank you very much) and implementing some new features that I've wanted to add for a while now... including the Dr. NerdLove store.

If you want my advice to go, but you don't want to throw money at certain large South American rivers, you can support me and the site by getting my books, workbooks and courses directly from me! All books come in the ePub format, so they'll be compatible with all your favorite e-readers. And of course, buying them directly from me helps immensely since it means there're fewer hands taking a cut first.

(New Game Plus is an exception, since that one is published through Thought Catalog.)

Oh and did I say courses? Yeah there's going to be some news about those soon. But in the meantime...

Get Ready for A Jumpstart!

I've mentioned the Jumpstart Sequence – my six week self-directed course – a while back. Some of you may have been wondering what was happening with that.

Or maybe you were wondering why hot dogs come in packs of eight and hot dog buns come in packs of ten. I dunno, I'm not Professor Xavier...

Anyway, wonder no longer, because the Jumpstart is here! The course will be available for free for anyone who subscribes to the newsletter. Now, since you're reading this, you're already subscribed... which means that it'll be hitting your inbox very soon. Be on the lookout; I think you're going to learn a lot.

In the meantime, I'm putting some other courses together that will be coming soon. If there are subjects or areas where you're struggling and you'd like some help, reply to this email and let me know.

What I'm reading: I've started reading Shimazaki In The Land of Peace by Gouten Hamada. It's the story of a man returning to his home in Tokyo after having been forced to be a child soldier in an international terrorist organization and the challenges of acclimating to a new world after a lifetime of violence and terror. Highly recommended. (Affiliate link)

What I'm Watching: Daredevil: Born Again. A corrupt, power-hungry leader taking over. Thugs in uniform terrorizing cities as they snatch innocent civilians off the streets and disappearing them without trial or recourse. You'd be forgiven for thinking this was about ICE, but the season was written and shot before the murders of Alex Pretti and Renee Good. Worth it for the violent catharsis.

What I'm Listening To: Parov Stellar. I first found him when I was on an electro-swing kick but damn his style and sound has evolved. Give it a listen and see what you think.

That's gonna do it for now. Stay safe and be good to yourselves and I'll be seeing you again soon...

Doctor's Notes News, Updates and Random Open Tabs What's Up, Doc? Welcome to my favorite time of the year. Despite the Super El Niño trying it's damndest to make everything unseasonable, fall is finally here with it's cooler days, long cozy nights, a hint of crispness in the wind and the festive spookiness of Halloween. It's actually nice to be able to enjoy some coffee out on the porch in the crepuscular hours, watching the sun slowly break over the horizon and listen to the city wake up......

Doctor's Notes News, Updates and Random Open Tabs It's been a quiet couple of weeks at NerdLove Industries, without much in the way of news to report. So let's leap straight into it: For The Love Of God, Your Date Isn't "Testing" You As part of my overall gig as a dating coach and advice columnist, I read a number of subreddits about dating and relationships as a way of seeing what’s in the zeitgeist and what issues come up regularly and how people respond to those issues. This habit may be...

Doctor's Notes News, Updates and Random Open Tabs Hi, guys, gals and non-binary pals, I'm back again because I tend to have too many words in my brain and they need to go somewhere. One of the problems with having ADHD as a writer in general – and as a me specifically – is trying to actually move a metaphorical iron in the fire to actually doing something with it instead of just letting it sit in the fire until the metal's been burnt and it's basically useless.(Occasionally it's not even a...
